Somerfield Social Club Volunteers Recognised

The Somerfield Social Club was recognised at the annual Greater Dandenong Volunteer Resource Services (GDVRS) evening in December. The group was commended for its contribution to creating a positive community in Greater Dandenong.

GDVRS is a partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong and highlights the crucial role of volunteer organisations in maintaining the healthy and vibrant nature of the Dandenong community.

“Creating a sense of neighbourhood in our developments is as critical as the urban design and the homes that are built. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the huge volunteer effort the Somerfield Social Club has put into building such a tight-knit community,” says Max Shifman, Chief Operating Officer for Intrapac Projects.

Somerfield Social Club, in conjunction with Intrapac, has run numerous successful events during the year from Chinese New Year celebrations to the recent Christmas event featuring the CFA Santa, and many activities focused on providing fun for the young families in the development.

The Somerfield Social Club was recently recognised for its hard work at the recent Greater Dandenong Volunteer Resource Services awards.

Somerfield Residents Celebrate the Season with a XMAS Event

Somerfield Social Club welcomed the holiday season with a community Christmas event full of festive fun, including an animal petting farm, face-painter, balloonist and a visit from Keysborough CFA’s Santa.

“The Christmas party was the last in a long line of community events held at Somerfield over the last year, from Chinese New Year to Diwali,” says Max Shifman, Chief Operating Officer for Intrapac Projects, the company behind the development. “It’s rewarding to see such amazing community spirit.”

Held on Saturday 12 December at the popular pirate playground, Somerfield’s Christmas event was another chance for residents to come out and get to know their neighbours while celebrating the festive season.

The well-attended event was organised and run by the Somerfield Social Club. Together with the help of Intrapac, volunteer residents from the social club help coordinate events within the neighbourhood, reinforcing the true sense of Christmas within the community.

Landscaping Works at Somerfield

In the next few weeks we will be commencing remedial landscaping works in Stages 14a, 15, 16, 25-28 focusing on the nature strips.

The works will begin by applying herbicide to all nature strip areas followed by cultivation and preparing of damaged nature strip areas for seeding. The landscapers will be working in line with the weather and hence we will need to provide some flexibility around anticipated completion of work dates (approx one month after commencement).

RESIDENTS RESPONSIBILITIES
We ask that residents please do the following;

    • Do not park on nature strips & keep nature strips clear
    • Remove all rubbish and building materials from nature strips
    • Rubbish or other obstructions that are left on nature strips may be removed at the owners expense
    • Where possible please park in driveways rather than on the street to enable clear access for works
    • Ensure that nature strips are properly cared for and maintained (see below & attached information sheet)
Do not mount the kerb when parking in the street as it damages the grass
    • Once the grass has been installed, water your nature stip regularly over summer

NATURESTRIP CARE
Maintenance of nature strips in front of residences is the responsibility of homeowners once the nature strip is established, or officially, 12 months from when the grass is installed. Prior to this time, nature strips are maintained by the Developer.

PLEASE NOTE: During dry periods, especially in Summer, you must water your nature strip regularly in the early morning or evening to ensure it remains healthy.

Please refer to the information sheet attached here for details on nature strip care.

Pirate Day Celebrations at Somerfield

Pirate Day Celebrations at Somerfield

Monday 21 September 2015:- Pirate Day celebrations were in full swing last month at the inaugural International Talk Like a Pirate Day event, held at Somerfield’s Pirate Adventure playground in Keysborough.

Perfect weather made for an amazing backdrop with around 200 local residents in attendance.

Part of the entertainment included Somerfield’s very own pirate – the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow together with Wilma the wench who kept children captivated with their balloon twisting and crazy antics.

The pirate ship jumping castle and face painter proved to be popular with children – not to mention the chocolate treasure hunt and tattoo station.

A BIG congratulations to the winners of the Best Dressed Pirate & the Best Pirate Saying completion and to everyone who got dressed up and came along.

Thank you to all the Somerfield volunteers who helped make the event a success on the day.
